I learned that company advertise on shows that the average teen would watch. Nothing suprised me about how they target teens most ads have sexual or beautiful people in them. Companys learn whats cool by going in teen stores, talking to teens, see what teens do say and act.

There was nothing i really learned from the movie. Nothing really suprised me in the movie. I think how the companies lear what is cool is simple and a good idea.

Xzavier B. There were a couple of things i learned about the movie i now know that lots of teens have the same life style and act alot alot alike. i know that lots of teens look at ads and be ready to go buy that ad form the store that same day or the next day but the people made alot of sence when they put msot ads out to teens age kids because they be ready to buy it.

I thought the merchants of cool was pretty interesting i learned stuff like people can get paid to answer questions like what is cool and what kind of stuff do you wear also if something cool goes on t.v. it will probably no be cool anymore.

I learned quite a few thing from the video yesterday. One thing I learned was that teens are actually paid to just go in and answer questions. It's kind of wierd if you ask me. It also sprised me that there are people who all they do is ask teenagers question all day. it seems like a waste of time, even though you are getting paid for it.

What I think abot they way companies learn what is cool is strange, but it does in a way work. They eventually figure out what is cool and try to get it out early enough.

no I didnt realy learn anything from the movie that I probably couldent have guess and nothing suprised me. I think its a good a idea to pay teanagers to tell them whats cool and whats not.

From the movie I learned that people go around and they take surveys so they can sell more of there product. nothing from the movie suprised me about how companys market to teenagers. i think that they should survey them like they did in the video and they should send other teenagers to see what most teenagers think is cool.

I think it was cool how they tried to get in the minds of today's geration of teens. I like the fact hoe they took time to interveiw kids and find out what is hot on the market for teens. I also like the fact that they took the time to make this video to show others how things work. I found out some things that I didn't know like how the sprite heme was hosted on MTV. Over all i kinda of enjoyed the movie but as it went on and on it kind of lost my interest.

I learned that the really big companies did alot to get teenagers attieon.

The way they got the teeagers to buy their prouduct didn't suprise me. If it was some that wasn't popular in the generation we wouldn't watch it oor buy it.

I think it is weird they way they would god up to random kids and take their pictures of what there wearing to help get their attion for their prouduct.

I did not learn anything from movie.

Yes because they went around taking pictures of teenagers clothes.

I think that the companies are smart by surveying and taking pictures of teens. Also seeing how teens think.

I learned that they actualy interview teens. I was surprised that they payed kids to tell them what they like. I also coundn't belive how they walked around and took pictures of random teen's. But overall liked it. I learned a couple of things.

What I learned from the movie was why the shows we watch or the books we read have all the stuff aimed to what we like such as for most kids they like watching or reading about friends, sex, or drugs. If companies make shows and books with that stuff they can be sure to have the sales or views skyrocket because us kids like that stuff. One thing that suprised me was that they pay kids to go to parties and look cool, talk good about their products on websites or blogs and have the kids tell them what is cool.I think that companies learning about cool is good because their products get up to date.

Rashaud N. 3rd hour: The movie was kinda boring in the beginging, but when we really got in to the movie it was very intesting.I thought the way the produce tried to make their product popular was a good idea. Finally I like the way they put the products in clubs and t.v commerical for teenagers.

I learned that teens are actually paid to just go in and answer the question and they have to answer all questions.

The companies tries to figure out what teens like and try to make ads that teens might like. They also tries to figure out what cool is. which they find out eventually.

The video yesterday was surprising at what teenagers do. The sprite commerical was very annoying the second one the first was better. The commericals seen on the video were very distribing . Having teenagers see all those things with sex or doing it is a waste of money for the advertisers . I personally watch MTV and that's all but advertisers should think what they do instead of publishing it.

From the movie that we watched yesterday, I learned that companies will advertise basically anything that they think will try and sell the product.
The only thing that surprised me when I saw the video was that they used sex to advertise. And I think that using sex to advertise a product is inappropriate because little kids could be watching that commercial or ad and think that sex is okay at a young age.
I think how companies learn what is "cool" is a good idea because, they interview real people and go onto the street and find trend setters and see what style they are into.

i learned that people learn whats cool from actual teeenagers. i was very suprised that we were the target because i would have thought that it would have been adults the target since they have jobs which gives you money. i think thats a stupid way to learn whts cool because once you expose it it wont be cool anymore.

Nothing really suprised me about the movie, to me it was a waste of time. I mean we all know that to get a persons eye you have to use a sexy person because sex sale and we all know this. we also know that you can use a famous person and people that like this person would want to buy the prouduct.

It also suprised me that they payed people to go to the Sprite.com party. I think its nice how those companies leaarn what cool. Well was interesting that i found out about "The merchants of cool." is that us teens don't talk about sex we talk about baseball. I'm glad people talk to teens and see what they do as teens and how they talk to others. I learned that what a company advertises on a TV show an average teenager is usually watching it.

Their was nothing that I learned from the movie. Nothing really suprised me either you can pretty much tell when you see a commercial and the company is trying to be so called "cool" and it's like then instantly not cool anymore. I think it's a good idea how the companies find out about whats cool, and it's a smart idea. It's so simple all they have to do is talk to teens, seeing what teens say or do, and going to places teens go to.

In the merchants of cool i realized that we are the target for most of the products out today. Something that suprised me is how much sex they have out there on tv shows that air while little kiddies might be watching.I think companies learn about the "Cool Hunting" thing from what kids say and do. I think that they know that its important to say what kids are feeling, and to give them what they want but also making sure that they're selling their products.

Anonymous said...

I learned that people pay kids to ask them questions about what is "cool". Nothing suprised me about how they used sexual and sex cells to attract teenagers. i think that people in ads are doing it all wrong to get whats cool from teenagers they just need humor and that about it.

Anonymous said...

Gilly C., 4th Hour:
From "The Merchants of Cool" I learned that people actually study teenagers to find out what "cool" is. I wasn't really surprised that they make sexual ads and TV shows, specifically to target teen's. I actually think it is sort of weird for specialists to "study" teen's, to try to figure out what "cool" for us is. The thought of someone watching, or "studying" me, or teen's in general, is just sort of creepy to me. Specialist's find out what "cool" is by going to places where teen's would hang out. They talk to the teen's and see what they have to say about what's cool, and what isn't.

I learned that teenagers are the ones that advertisements aim for. Mostly because teenagers spend alot of money and spend alot of time on the computer or watching tv. I am surprised that they actually study teenagers and that it is all a scam. The things we se on tv aren't as they seem.

I learned in the movie that advertising groups have groups of teenagers to try and figure out whats cool. It suprised me how much company's use sexual actions to attract teenagers. I think it is a good idea on how they find out what is cool. When they go to teen stores, teen hangouts, or sit down and talk with a bunch of teenagers to find out what is cool is a smart way to do it.

I learned that the way companies target their teens is not very hard to do.Most parts of the video did not suprise me or entertain me at all. I did learn that they target most teens on what they do, like, or stuff they say. Or new stuff they see most teens doing know like the kind of clothes they wear what movies intrest them as a teenager. So they have a easy cycle on getting updates about things teenagers does.

I learned a lot from he video that we watched yesterday. I was suprised that they have sex commercials that are for everyone to see on t.v. to advertise a product of course to advertise but I think they should not have sex commercials because little kids can be watching those commercials and think sex is okay at young age. I think that companies learn and find out what is cool by talking to them and just watching what they like and ask them what they would pick out of a store if it was there 1st choice. The thing that also suprised me was that they got paid for saying what they like and the guy got paid for asking them. I think that is a really easy way to get money by just asking questions or answering them back.

Yesterday when we watched "The Merchants of Cool", I found out interesting things about advertising. I didnt know people would go through so much, when advertising a product. It was amazing how people would wanna know so much about teenagers, I think that teenagers can be awkward and go through different stages in life, because I am one. So to really know so much about a teenager, you have to be a teenger. I was also suprised about the Sprit pop. I think it was very cool to throw a Sprit party for teenagers, being that we did help Sprit grow. Now, Im kind of understanding why teenagers is the target in certain products, when it comes to the advertising industry.

From the movie, I learned how the companies that market their merchandice to us get their information on what is cool and popular for our age group.
Nothing really surprised me on how companies market to teenagers. I think that it is nice how companies ask us what we think is cool instead of just making such things up. I kinda liked the movie because it showed us how advertising has progressed and how they decide what to advertise to us.

I learned that most companies advertise to reach out to the teenagers because they have the most disposable money to spend. I found it interesting that companies actually talk to teenagers to see what they want. Also, how they go and take pictures of unique styles that teenagers are wearing. Nothing else really surprised me about how they target teens.

I was really entertained and shocked. I learned that most teenagers are the same. I didn't think that advertisers had directly always wanted to target teenagers. The process that the advertisers go through just to have a good selling product. I like the idea of how teenagers where interviewed to tell the advertisers what cool was.

I learned that company's do a lot of things just to find out what's cool for a teenager. I wasn't to surprised about how company's market teenagers, its the same thing though, all of the ads or shows have beautiful people and show some type of sexual content. But I did think that it was pretty cool how compinies learn what is 'cool', by just talking and asking the average teen what is cool and what isn't.

First thing I want to say is that movie was really dirty. I also realize that there is a lot more commercials that just target teens than I thought. I also learned that teens are actually paid to go and say what is cool. No, it did not suprise me that people use sex sells to advertize teens. I don't like how companies figure out what is cool. They just pick out some random people and take their pictures. The thing is, are those people really "cool"? They ask people what is cool, but do they actually know what is popular?

In the movie Merchants of Cool, i learned how the market aims toward teenagers. They try to figure out what is cool so they can stay with the teenage generation. Some marketers have a hard time keeping cool because teens change all the time. I think the way they research about what is cool is affective. Going and taking pictures and asking teens wherever you go about what is cool can help in the business. I am surprised how they try to learn more abut teens then any other age group.

I know that when kids see certain ads they like they go to the store and get that product because the advertisers made the product look so good and sound so well that people either go and get the product when they first see or wait these are some things i learned by watching this commercial video

I learned that once a company declares something as "cool" then teens stop buying that product. Nothing really surprised me about how companies market to teens. I think the way companies learn how things are "cool" is simple ans smart.

Overall i didnt really learn anything from the blog besides that many people can be influences by what they see.Their wasn't really any surprises in the movies in my opinon but my in otheirs people opinion it does. This movie did not really affect me, well maybe some of it did but not alot of it.Companies do alot to catch peoples attention espeically teenagers so theirs really no suprise. Most companies learn stuff is cool by making a survey or by asking kids what they like or what they think before they post it even by how kidds react.

I learned how many advertisemnt companys were related to teen. Not much suprise expect those comanys that were mostly related to teens and i learned how kids go out and want to buy what they see ina ad the next day of the same day when they the ad or something and i also learned how not to be tricked by some of those ads because some people from the companys are not really telling the truth so they lie to get money

I learned that marketer's don't just use commercials to sell things. They get around other ways and actually go with the flow. I think that ways marketers see what's cool or anything Is kinda weird because they actually come and question us when we could just not be interested anyway. The way merketer's go and do that is a good idea but also not. Then It suprised me on how they actually have concerts and clubs with big ads.

I learned that company advertisments are on some shows I don't know or never herd of...I didn't really get surprised when I saw the ads using sex to lure teens into stuff. They figure out what's cool by surveying teens and going into top teen bought stores and so on...

I learned that company advertise on shows that most teens watch.Teenagers was the most targeted for advertising. other things that suprised me was that in the video they had asked the kids that were getting paid some questions and the questions that they had was very personal that you wouldnt ask on television. These are are some of the things that i learned while watching the video"The Merchants Of Cool"

what i have learned from the video was, that they really want too know what we like, and what kinds of things that we are interested in. And how much they really want to know. But to me it feels like they are trying to use us. Because they are not really do not care about us., they just want to know what we like, and what we are interested into. and then how many details can we give them or ideas, about what we like and things like that. it kindds of feel like scary because they take pictures of people and all these things just to really only see what we are interested into........and this is what i really feel about this.

I learned that companies will say just about anything to get you to buy their product. What suprised me about the way they they found out what was "cool". They went up to random people and asked to take their picture, which if you ask is a little creepy. Companies found out what is cool by paying teens to talk to them and going to people house and interveiwing them.

From the movie, I learned that companies are willing to do a lot of things to learn what is "cool". I also learned that people actually pay teenagers to ask them questions all day. Frankly, I think that's wierd. It surprised me that people would just walk up to teenagers & ask them if they can take their picture. I find that inappropriate, but they do what it takes. I think the way companies learn what's cool, is very strange, but I guess they aren't afraid to get out there, they go straight to the source. & it kind of surprised me to see that teenagers are actually a lot alike.

From the movie I learned how companies target teenagers for products. What suprised me was that the actually go and hire teenagers just to figure out what they think is cool. I think how companies learn what is cool is a little creepy, people go around on the streets asking to take pictures of cool teenagers and they will even go into a teenagers home and interview them and go through their things to see what's cool.
